KATHMANDU , JAN 16 - A delegation of Former Parliamentarians' Forum led by its Chairman Taranath Ranabhat met Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Sunday.
The delegation drew Prime Minister's attention towards peace, constitution, restructuring of state and the national flag and emblems.
The Forum urged the Prime Minister Nepal to complete the management and integration of the Maoist combatants before promulgating constitution, integrate fighters on the basis of their personal competence rather than group induction, ask the Maoists to return seized properties, and provide relief to the conflict victims.
Similarly, the Prime Minister has been urged to include the principles of constitutional supremacy, universal human rights, guarantee of the fundamental rights, multi-party parliamentary system based on pluralism and independent judiciary as the inalienable provisions in the constitution.
The former parliamentarians also drew the attention of the Prime Minister not to provide right to self-determination in a way that harms national integrity and sovereignty in the process of changing country into the federal setup.
Moreover, they have demanded not to change the national flag and national symbols.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Nepal said he took the Forum's demands very seriously and added that the peace process will be reached to logical conclusion and constitution written on time on the basis of national consensus.
The delegation comprised Omkar Prasad Shrestha, Hom Raj Dahal, Shankar Nath Sharma, Jhalak Nath Wagle, Bishnu Bahadur Raut, Hikmat Bahadur Shahi, Sushila Sharma and others.
