‘Maoist-led govt acceptable if conditions met’
KATHMANDU, JAN 15 -
Nepali Congress (NC) Central leader Gagan Thapa said on Saturday that the NC will bolster a UCPN (Maoist)-led government provided that the party meets the conditions put forth by the NC regarding the peace and the statute drafting process.
Speaking at an interaction programme organised by the Reporters’ Club in the Capital, Thapa claimed that the two parties—NC and Maoist—need to move forward in unity in order to extricate the nation from the current stalemate.
Identifying the two parties as the guardians of peace and statute, he added that the NC and the Maoist must convene dialogues and reach an agreement to form a national consensus government at the earliest.
“The top brass of the major three parties are convinced that the new constitution cannot be promulgated within May 28,” Thapa claimed, “Thus, they are concerned about how to make the post-May 28 period favourable to fulfill their motives.”
On the occasion, he underscored the need to prioritise the peace and the statute drafting process.
