Nawalparasi to be Doclofenac-free district
PARASI, JAN 14 - A campaign to announce Nawalparasi a diclofenac-free district is underway with a view to protecting vulture population.
Diclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that has become a popular treatment for ailing livestock.
The District Livestock Office, Nawalparasi, has financially supported the campaign as carcasses of diclofenac-fed animals led to decrease in vulture population. Diclofenac damages kidneys of vultures.
The livestock office said that veterinaries in the district will stop using the drug's use in an effort to help save the declining vulture population within Jan. 16 and the district will be declared the diclofenac-free on the same day officially.
