KAVRE, JAN 06 - Passengers plying BP Highway route are a terrified lot as Kavreli transportation entrepreneurs have brought terror on the highway.

On Thursday, they vandalised two passenger buses for defying their strike in support of their syndicate system on the highway.

The dispute between Kavre entreprensurs and their Sindhuli counterparts, who are against the syndicate system, has given passengers a nightmare.

"Passengers like me are compelled to travel putting lives at stake due to lack of security," said Babita Karki, a passenger one of the vandalised buses.

Sindhuli transporters say they are fighting for the right cause. "The highway is built by the state and it is the right of all entrepreneurs to use it without any obstruction," said Dinesh Basnet, Chairman of Sindhuli Transportation Entrepreneur Service Committee.

The agitating entrepreneurs took Kusum Yatayat (Ba 2 Kha 5785) and Sunkoshi Express (Na 4 Kha 3457) under control from Dhulikhel Bus Park and vandalised, police said. The buses were heading to Kathmandu from Udaypur district.

"We disfigured the buses after Sindhuli entrepreneurs didn't comply with our warning not to ply passenger buses along the highway until a meeting between the two sides over the issue," said  Sur Krishna Baidha, Chairman of Kavre Mini Bus Service Committee.

While Kavreli entrepreneurs are insisting on making Banepa the central point, the Sinduli ones are for Kathmandu.
