KATHMANDU, JAN 03 - Vice President Paramananda Jha remarked on Monday that the president should be prepared to shoulder the responsibility of resolving the political deadlock if the political parties fail to do so. He added that the president, who is the protector of the nation, can’t run away by leaving the country in a chaotic situation.

“President should carry out his role. He should be prepared for taking the responsibility if the government and the parties give in,” said the vice president, while receiving a memorandum submitted by the Reporter’s Club to exert pressure for the peace and constitution drafting process.

“And our president is capable to take the responsibility,” he added.

Jha urged the president to give up his post if he is not capable enough to give a way out from the crisis.

“In this situation, either the president should take up the responsibility or step down,” said Jha.

He informed that an agreement was reached between the president, the prime minister, the House speaker, and him to kick start the procedure so as form the new government within Jan. 29. He also revealed that the process will be initiated by shortening the parliamentary election process.

The vice president expressed his dissatisfaction over the activities of the political parties.

“The peace process could have been concluded with seven days, but the parties failed to do so. They extended the Constituent Assembly’s term after failing to draft the new constitution. Where the room for satisfaction?” Jha questioned.
