Landgren leaving for New York tonight
KATHMANDU, JAN 01 -
United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) Chief Karin Landgren is leaving for New York on Saturday night in order to present a report on Nepal’s peace process at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Landgren is leaving at the time when UNMIN’s current term is in verge of expiry.
It has been learnt that the UNMIN chief will be presenting the report before the UNSC on Jan 5.
Meanwhile, UCPN (Maoist) has dispatched a letter to the UNSC seeking extension of UNMIN’s term until May 28.
The party has been opining that UNMIN’s presence in Nepal is vital for the accomplishment of the peace process.
However, the government has already issued a letter to UN assuring that the peace process in Nepal will gain momentum even after UNMIN’s departure.
