No need to extend UNMIN term: Chemjong
DHANKUTA, DEC 29 -
Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Rakam Chemjong has said that there is no need to extend the term of United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN).
Minister Chemjong said so at a press meet organised by the Dhankuta chapter of Press Chautari Nepal in the district headquarters Wednesday morning.
He said the peace process has been delayed as UNMIN failed to play effective role in the country.
Saying that the UPCN (Maoist) combatants must be brought under the purview of the Special Committee prior to the exit of UNMIN, Minister Chemjong said, "The integration and rehabilitation can be headed only after it comes under the control of the Special committee for the Supervision, Integration and Rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants."
Also on the occasion, Chemjong said the new statute can not be drafted and the peace process can not be taken to a logical conclusion unless the major political parties forge consensus.
