KATHMANDU, DEC 29 - The UCPN (Maoist)-affiliated All Nepal Teachers' Union (ANTU) has announced to disrupt the establishment of new private schools in the country. Speaking at a programme to publicise the union's central committee decisions on Wednesday, ANTU President Guna Raj Lohani charged that private sector has used education as a shortcut to prosperity business and commercialised the entire sector.

"Multinational companies have started investing in the education sector that has emerged as a money-spinning business now," said Lohani. "There is no difference between Dabur Nepal and the private education sector." The union has also decided to pressure the government to ensure effective monitoring and regulation of the private schools.

Lohani said his organisation would create moral pressure on the leaders of its mother organisation to withdraw their children from private schools if they have any. ANTU, said Lohani, plans to conduct a three-month awareness programme on education across the country.
