Dabur Nepal (P) Ltd. Managing Director Rukma Shumsher Rana, also Nepal’s Ambassador to India, has said that his involvement in the management of his company will not conflict with his responsibilities as a diplomat.
“As Nepal’s Ambassador to India, I represent my country and not any company,” he said, talking to The Kathmandu Post at the Barakhamba Road-based Nepali Embassy here on Monday.
Rana claimed that he has no participation in the everyday operations and management of Dabur Nepal, a subsidiary of Dabur India Ltd, these days. He said the company was being run by appointed professionals. He said that his role of a government official will not figure in the recent controversy enveloping Dabur Nepal.
Rana also said that Dabur Nepal conducted its own investigation regarding package falsification of its popular product — Real Juice — after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority raided the company’s godown. “The investigation ascertained that it was a mistake on the company’s part,” Rana said.
According to him, the company was set to introduce a new package for the product from January, and the ‘mistake’ took place in the flurry of the repackaging plan.
“The plant had to be shut for 15 days in order to place the new system of packaging in place. In the meantime, we had the
issue of delivering according to the demand for the product in the Indian market. It was at that time when the company received the order from India to use the old model cartons, stamped with January as the month of manufacture,” Rana explained, adding that Dabur Nepal is ready to face action. “Whatever the penalty or fine, we are ready to pay.”
