DAO summons Om Hospital docs
KATHMANDU, DEC 26 - Kathmandu District Administration Office (DAO) has summoned a team of doctors, including senior gynaecologist Dr. Bhola Rijal, of the Chabahil-based Om Hospital and Research Centre to inquire about the death of an infant following an operation at the hospital last week.
Responding to a case filed by the relatives of the deceased infant, DAO on Sunday issued a seven-day notice to Dr. Rijal, Dr. KP Devkota, Dr. Rita Manandhar, Dr. Ananda Prasad Shrestha, Amrit Shrestha, Dr. Abhusan Tuladhar and Dr. Pratima Shrestha asking them to be present at DAO and brief on the incident.
On Friday, the kin of the deceased had lodged a case against the hospital and the team of doctors demanding Rs. 6.5 million as compensation.
“In order to know the fact about the incident, we have asked them to be present at the DAO along with the original documents pertaining to the deceased infant,” said Laxmi Dhakal, Chief District Officer of Kathmandu.
According to officials, the infant was born with its stomach being split open after an operation conducted to Chojom Dolma Sherpa by a medical team led by Dr. Rita Manandhar on 18 Dec. The infant died in the hospital the following day as it was born with Gastroschisis, a birth defect in which an infant's intestines stick out of the body though a defect on one side of the umbilical cord.
Urging fair investigation into the incident, the director of the hospital Dr. Hari Kishore Shrestha said the medical team is visiting the DAO on Monday.
The kin of the deceased child have also lodged a complaint at the Nepal Medical Council demanding fair probe into the incident.
