Ten on ten blows; Karn sets record
KATHMANDU, DEC 21 -
Avinash Karn, a 16-year-old from Pragatinagar, Birgunj, became the first bowler to claim ten wickets in an innings at a national tournament on Monday.
Karn, representing region no. 2 Birgjunj ended with figures of 10 wickets and 24 runs in his spell of 6.1 overs in the U-19 national match against region no. 6 Baitadi.
Mehboob Alam holds the same record for Nepal in an international match. He had taken 10 wickets against Mozambique in the ICC World Cricket League Division 5 which was held in Jersey back in 2008.
Karn also a left-arm seam bowler was over the moon after being able to follow the paths of his role model Alam. "I am happy beyond words," the jubilant teenager said. He added that the last six years he had spent practicing his bowling at the Adarsh Sport Ground in front of his house had borne fruit at last.
According to Karn, the gentle breeze at the TU Cricket Ground played an instrumental part for him as all he had to do was pitch the ball in line and the wicket did the rest for him.
Karn, who recently joined the management faculty at Birgunj Public Campus, had taken seven wickets against Bhairahawa in the U-16 tournament back in 2009 at the same ground.
