9,000 hectares encroached in Dang

Hectares of public and private land have been encroached in Dang district in the name of different groups.
Landless people, freed Kamaiyas and some other groups, usurping around 9,000 hectares of land, have constructed houses and huts in many places.
Around 968 hectares belonging to Deukhuri-based Sanskrit University and 749,1 hectares of private land have been encroached at Rajpur VDC.
Similarly, hectares of land of Mahendra Multiple Campus, Mid-Western Regional Police Office, Awashiya Secondary School and Lamahi Municipality Development Committee has been usurped in the name of landless people.
Encroachers divided the land and constructed over 800 huts, said Chairman of Tikuligad Settlement Management Committee Thagendra Prasad Chaudhary.
Likewise, over 335 hectares of land belonging to Sworgadyori Ashram have been encroached in the name of farmers and freed Kamaiyas have usurped around 17 hectares of the District Administration Office.
According to statistics of the District Forest Office, Dang, its 2,479 hectares have been encroached where 8,201 families are residing. "Of 462 community forests in the district, two-thirds forests have been encroached."
"We can neither evict the encroachers nor take action against them as they are backed by political parties," said Secretary of Janakalyan Forest Group Jogram Yadav. "The moment the guilty are arrested leaders wield power and free them," he added.
