KATHMANDU, DEC 10 -

UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Friday warned that all “the universities would be turned into barracks” if the regressive elements intensified their conspiracies.

The Maoists chairman said his party would take the “Nepali revolution” to a decisive turn by turning the universities and campuses into barracks.

“It is vital to convert all our universities into barracks if the counter-revolutionists intensify their plots. Our move should take the Nepali revolution into a decisive turn,” said the Maoist chairman, speaking at the inaugural of the 18th National Convention of Maoist-aligned All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) in Kirtipur today.

He claimed that the counterrevolutionaries would pose a grave threat unless the students come to the forefront by changing themselves into armed forces.

“I appeal to all of you to be prepared for transforming into army forces and turning the universities into barrack whenever there will be the need for it,” said Dahal.

He claimed that various internal and external forces have been conspiring to abduct the achievement made through the Nepali revolution.

Dahal went on to allege that the “anti-change forces” tried hard to split and weaken the Maoists during the party’s sixth extended plenum in Palungtar, Gorkha. Claiming that the party leaders were not engaged in haggle over the leadership, Dahal made it clear that the 7,000 people held intense democratic debate for seven days to complete Nepali revolution.

He appealed to the party-aligned students to return by strengthening the union bond and adopting new strategy and leadership from the convention.

Party leaders including Vice Chairmen duo Baburam Bhattarai and Mohan Baidya were also present at convention.

During the inaugural session, chairman of UML-aligned student front, All Nepal National Free Students Union,  Madhav Dhungana, and Acting President of Nepali Congress-aligned, Nepal Students Union, Ganesh Raj Bista, among other leaders, wished for the success of the 18th convention of revolutionary students.

Altogether 1,818 representatives from 42 districts and centers and monitors is expected participate in the convention that will last for five day.
