KATHMANDU, DEC 10 - Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said on Friday that his absence or presence in the country would not have made any difference to the political deadlock.

“The political deadlock would not have been affected due to my absence,” said the prime minister, talking to journalists upon his arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport. He returned to the Capital after completing a ten-day foreign visit.

PM Nepal had been widely criticized for embarking on a foreign trip instead of taking initiatives to resolve the deadlock amid the deepening political crisis.

“I don’t think the other leaders were asleep here during my absence,” said Prime Minister Nepal. “I had been in touch with leaders including Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokhrel by phone and urged them to end the deadlock at the earliest.”

The prime minister said his visit was fruitful, but felt remorse not participating in the United Nations General Assembly.

“I realised how the newspapers write editorials and news without understanding the gravity,” said the caretaker prime minister, who resigned from the post of prime minister on June 31, following intense pressure from various quarters especially the UCPN (Maoist).

Expressing his readiness to hold discussion to forge consensus for summoning the parliamentary session, PM Nepal remarked if anyone insists on calling for a special session then it is their right.

He returned after attending the conference of Asian political parties held in Cambodia, from where he went to participate in the gathering of the Least Developed Countries in Belgium.
