Acting PM asks for aid even after UNMIN exit
KATHMANDU, DEC 03 - Acting Prime Minister Bijaya Gachhadar on Friday urged the visiting Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, B. Lynn Pascoe to continue its support for the peace process in Nepal even after the withdrawal of United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN).
In a meeting with the visiting UN political department chief, Gachhadar said the technologies such as CCTVs will be needed for the monitoring of cantoned Maoist combatants even after the exit of UNMIN,.
"He has assured of further discussions on the UN’s assistance," said Home Minister Bhim Rawal, who was also present at the discussion.
The meeting also dwelt on the directive and the code of conduct prepared for bringing the Maoist combatants under the special committee and detach from the Maoist chain of command discussed in the meeting.
Former army officer Balananda Sharma, the coordinator of the Special Committee Secretariat constituted for the monitoring and control of the combatants, was also present at the meeting.
Earlier Pascoe met the Foreign Minister, Sujata Koirala, and held discussions on the modality of the integration and rehabilitation of the combatants. Koirala, in reply, said that she was invited in UN' Security Council meeting to inform about the peace process.
Pascoe also met the Acting Chairman of CPN-UML, Ashok Rai, in their party office at Balkhu, Kathmandu.
