PM no to convening parliament
KATHMANDU, NOV 27 -
At a time when major political parties are demanding parliament be convened immediately, caretaker Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has rejected it saying the session will resume only after consensus is achieved.
Speaking at a tea party organised by the CPN (UML) Kathmandu District Committee on Saturday Nepal said the date will be decided after discussions with the major political parties. "Talks are underway and I will meet UCPN (Maoist) leaders after they return from their plenum," he said, adding, "Calling the House without addressing present differences is of no use."
Meanwhile, Speaker Subas Nembang has started parleys with political leaders to urge them to end the protracted political crisis resulted from the closure of the parliament session. The Constituent Assembly Chairman met senior UML leader K P Oli on Saturday. He will meet Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and top leaders of other major parties early next week. “The role of the political parties is crucial to end this stalemate,” he said after meeting Oli. “I will soon organise a joint meeting of major parties and ask them to find an early solution.” President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav on Wednesday had urged the Speaker to try and bring the parties to consensus.
