KATHMANDU, NOV 24 -
The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday served a 15-year jail term and Rs. 100,000 fine each to Bed Bahadur Bote, Bam Bahadur Praja and Bijaya Lama for poaching a one-horned rhino at Chitwan National Park (CNP) in 2001. A bench of justices Khil Raj Regmi and Rana Bahadur Bam issued the verdict convicting the trio of committing a heinous crime. Hetauda Appellate Court and the law enforcement authorities at CNP had served similar jail term and fine on June 30, 2008 and May 17, 2009 respectively. Among the convicted, Lama, who masterminded the crime, is still at large whereas Bote and Parja are doing their time in Rupandehi and Bharatpur jails respectively, according to the verdict note.
