LAHORE, NOV 17 -

Eid-ul-Azha commemorating the supreme sacrifice offered by Hazrat Ibrahim Khalilullah (AS) and his son Hazrat Ismail Zabiullah (AS) in the fulfilment of the divine order, is being observed in Pakistan, like other parts of the world, on Wednesday, November 17 with religious zeal and fervour.

Eid prayers will be offered at Eidgahs, mosques and open places across the country wherein ulema and khateebs will highlight the significance and philosophy of the sacrifice, and call upon the Muslims to follow the teachings of Islam in true spirit. Special prayers will also be offered for integrity, solidarity and prosperity of the country and unity among the Muslim Ummah.

Prayers will also be offered for the liberation of occupied Muslim territories. After offering Eid prayers, the faithful will sacrifice animals following the Sunnat-e-Ibrahimi. The process of sacrificing the animals will continue till Friday (third day of Eid). The faithful will share out the meat among family, friends and the poor, who each get a third share.

Stringent security arrangements have been made by the law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order. Policemen in plain clothes as well as uniform will be deputed at Eid congregations for the security of the faithful. Different NGOs and charity organisations have made special arrangements to collect hides of sacrificial animals.

According to religious scholars, Eid-ul-Azha is celebrated to mark the occasion when Allah Almighty asked Hazrat Ibrahim in a dream to sacrifice his son Isma'il as an act of obedience to God. The 'devil' tried to tempt Ibrahim by saying that he should disobey Allah and spare his son. As Hazrat Ibrahim was about to kill his son, Allah stopped him and gave him a lamb to sacrifice instead.

PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif in his Eid message has called for pledging to rendering any type of sacrifice for rule of law, supremacy of constitution, provision of justice and prosperity of countrymen. He said that provision of social justice and equal opportunities would have to be ensured to tackle challenges posed to the country. He added that every Pakistani, including government and political leadership, should show the spirit of sacrifice and help out the needy and flood affected people on the occasion of Eid. "In a society where justice is prevailed, any conspiracy of enemy can not be successful," he said.

PML-Q President Shujaat Hussein and Pervaiz Elahi in their Eid message said that on the occasion of Eid, rulers should renew their pledge of resolving the public issues. "We must pray for peace and security in the country and unity in our ranks," they said.
