KATHMANDU, OCT 10 -

Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Loktantrik (MJF-L) Chairman and Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar remarked on Sunday that the country won’t see a new prime minister even after eight months if the major parties continue to repeat the rhetorical consensus. He underscored the need to accept the majority system to pick a new prime minister.

Speaking at a programme organised at the Reporter's Club in the Capital today, the MJF-L chairman blamed the big three parties for the current political deadlock. He added that the parties should first reach a consensus on who should be given the leadership of the to-be-formed government.

He went on to say that the major three parties—UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML—failed to live up to the responsibility entrusted to them.

Gachhadar also remarked that the Madhes-based parties cannot be underestimated as they are emerging as a stronger national power.

Notably, four months have passed since the major parties struck a last-minute deal to extend the term of Constituent Assembly (CA)’ by one year. The political parties have failed to form a new government even after three months following the resignation of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.

In a separate context, the deputy prime minister of the outgoing government said the mistreatment of Indian Envoy Rakesh Sood was against the diplomatic norms. Saying that Sood is Nepal’s guest, Gachhadar said the behaviour to Sood was contrary to the Nepali tradition to treat guests as god.

He further said his party abstained form voting in the prime ministerial elections as none of the parties vying for the post express readiness to meet the demands laid out by the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Mukti Morcha (SLMM) in its concept paper.

Likewise, he noted that around 3.3 million people living in Madhes will be deprived of their franchise if the Election Commission move ahead with its drive to prepare digital voter-list based on the citizenship.
