Taplejung high 'n' dry

TAPLEJUNG, OCT 10 -

Residents of bordering areas of Taplegunj district are left in the lurch ahead of Dashain after the government failed to distribute subsidised food provided by Tibet. The Taplegunj District Development Committee could not distribute the foodstuff after Dawachungda Sherpa, a contractor, padlocked the warehouse over a payment row. Sherpa said almost 75 percent of the transportation from Tibet has completed and that he has not got any payment so far. The committee said it would distribute the food as soon as the row is solved.

Residents of Olangchung Gola have not purchased any foodstuff hoping that the government will provide them with subsidised food. “We will have little to eat during the festival,” a local Pemba Sherpa said.

Local Development Officer Prem Kumar Shrestha said that an all-party meeting would take a decision on the matter.
