KATHMANDU, OCT 02 -
Sixteen persons, including four students of medicine, were rounded up with arms from a rented house at Maitidevi in the Capital in the wee hours of Saturday.
On suspicion of leakage of question papers of the MBBS entrance examination of Institute of Medicine, a special police squad deployed by the Metropolitan Police Sector, Gaushala, raided the house and arrested them, including five Indian nationals and the guardians of students appearing for the MBBS examination.
Police seized two US-made pistols, two magazines and nine bullets from the house while a jeep bearing an Indian number plate was also seized from the premises. Police also detained District Education Officer Kedar Tiwari and his wife for investigation. The duo had reportedly visited the house on Friday afternoon. Police released them later in the afternoon.
Indian currency notes worth Rs 75,000, NRs. 50,000, Chinese Yuan 2500 and 12 mobile sets were seized. On Saturday morning, police, however, allowed the students to appear for the exams. It is not clear who brought the weapons and for what purpose.
It is learnt that one Prakash Kushwaha, 18, of Bara district had rented the house owned by Kishor Tandon. The raiding police team suspects that there could be an organised racket of leaking and selling the question paper of the MBBS course entrance exam. Police, however, could not find any leaked question papers or other evidence from the house. Superintendent of Police Ramesh Kharel, in-charge of the Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka, said investigation is on.
