KATHMANDU, SEP 25 -

Nepal recorded its fourth death from AH1N1, commonly known as swine flu, at the Chabahil-based Om Hospital.

Project Coordinator of Avian Influenza Control Project (AICP), under the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Anand K Shrestha, said a 43-year-old male patient from Bhaktapur died of the flu at the hospital.

Shrestha said the dead, who had been suffering from diabetes and hypertension, had earlier been admitted to the Thapathali-based Norvic Hospital. The hospital recorded his death early on Thursday morning. It will officially declare the death on Sunday after an AICP team completes its investigation. Health officials have asked the public not to panic even as viral fever cases have gone up. There is an adequate stockpile of drugs and other resources to respond to an outbreak, they said.

According to the AICP, the influenza has so far claimed four lives.
