90 Nepalis jailed in Qatar

KAKARVITTA, SEP 16 -

Ninety  Nepalis have been languishing inside a prison in Qatar for the past three days following a row with their employing company.

One of those behind the bar in the Arabic nation, Abhi Chandra Tiwari, of Mechinagar-11, called his family back home and informed that 90 Nepalis including him have been imprisoned. 

Tiwari, along with other 89, have been working at the Allbadar Company in Qatar for the past 21 months. The jailed abroad Nepalis are the residents of Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, and Saptari districts.

According to Tiwari’s father, the Nepalis have been imprisoned following a debate with the company.

"We have been starving of hunger for the past three days," said Tiwari’s father Tej Prasad, quoting his son as telling him over the phone.

The debate ensured after the workers raised objection over their pay, which was deduced from 1000 riyal to 650 per month, said Abhi Chandra. Following the row, the company sifted the Nepali workers to a different place and jailed them.
