Seven Tibetans detained from Dolakha
KATHMANDU, SEP 14 -
Police detained seven Tibetans and their aids from Sunakhari, Dolakha on Tuesday while they were illegally sneaking into Nepali territory.
The arrest comes at a time when a high-level Chinese delegation is on a visit to Nepal.
The Tibetans, aged between 16 to 25 years, were caught at 2 this afternoon. They entered into Nepal via Lapchi village, bordering the Chinese autonomous region of Tibet.
Police arrested their aid identified as Sudeep Sunuwar, a teacher of Lumnang Private School at Lamabagar in Lapcha, for assisting the Tibetans.
A human trafficking charge sheet has been filed against Sunwar, DSP Dhiraj Pratap Singh said.
Sunuwar will be liable to pay Rs. 200,000 or face 10-15 years jail term if found guilty.
It is illegal for Tibetans to enter Nepal. The government has tightened the illegal entry of Tibetans as per its commitment to one-China policy.
Nepal is home to about 20,000 exiled Tibetans who began arriving in large numbers in 1959 after the Dalai Lama fled Tibet following a failed uprising against the Chinese government.
