Maoists to block new bill by caretaker govt

KATHMANDU, SEP 10 - The UCPN (Maoist) on Friday reiterated its stand that it won't allow the caretaker government to table any new bill in the Legislature-Parliament.

Maoist Vice-Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the current government, which is a caretaker one, doesn’t have the legality to introduce any bill.

“We (Maoists) won’t allow the care taker government to introduce any new bills,” said Shrestha after the Maoist office bearers’ meeting.

The Legislature-Parliament has failed to take place owing to the dispute over tabling the bill.

In response to the media persons’ queries, the Maoist vice-chairman refuted the allegations that his party is responsible for obstructing the House session regularly.

At the meeting, some of the party bearers opined that Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal should withdraw his candidacy for the post of prime minister and start a new course.

Maoist Chairman Dahal has been vying for the prime minister’s post against Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Poudel. But neither of the candidates has been able to secure a majority in the parliamentary elections held for seven times since July 21.

Chairman Dahal however stressed on the need for participating in one more round of election.

The meeting reportedly held discussion on the agendas and future strategy to be tabled at the party Central Committee meeting that will resume from Saturday.

It has been understood that the party has decided to prepare a joint report by incorporating the separate documents of Chairman Dahal,Vice Chairmen duo Mohan Baidhya and Baburam Bhattarai  and suggestions form the central members.

Earlier, there was virtual split with in the Maoists after three different reports were tabled at the CC meet.

 The Maoist CC meet which was stalled for the past few days has been scheduled to resume tomorrow at 11am.
