PARBAT, SEP 09 - Defense Minister and CPN-UML leader Bidhya Bhandari has remarked on Thursday that the neutral stance of her party in the ongoing prime ministerial elections has only benefited the former monarchist and reactionary forces.

Speaking at a journalists’ assembly organised by the Parbat chapter of Press Chautari Nepal on Thursday, Minister Bhandari underscored the need for electing a new prime minister in order to give a way out from the ongoing deadlock.

“Reactionary forces have been trying to rear their heads as if fishing in the muddy water,” said the minister.

She blamed the UCPN (Maoist) for the failure to form a national consensus government.

“Maoists are engaged in power tussle by putting the constitution drafting process in the back burner,” she said, “That’s why the UML would rather support Nepali Congress (NC) candidate for the PM’s post instead of the Maoist.”

While saying that the country has become a hostage of indecision as the prime ministerial elections became fruitless for the seven times, Minister Bhandari urged to break the stalemate. She added that the CA parties should strive for the drafting of a democratic constitution by forming a new government.

The Defence Minister of the outgoing government pointed out the country will plunge into an economic instability if the new constitution could not be drafted.

In response to media persons query, Minister Bhandari said, “both the prime minister contenders should pull out and a new democratic avenue should be sought.”
