NC convention to focus on unity
KATHMANDU, AUG 30 -
Nepali Congress (NC) leaders said on Monday that the forthcoming 12th General Convention is not just the party's election, but also the convention of unity and reconciliation.
With the convention nearing close (from Sept. 17 to 21), NC leaders maintain that it will focus on institutionalising federal democratic republic and the peace process for the sake of promulgation of the new constitution on time.
As many as 3,100 representatives are taking part in the convention to be held in Kathmandu. NC has been working on war footing for the preparation of the gathering.
As part of it, NC-affiliated Nepal Press Union organised a press meet at the party headquarters in Sanepa today.
Speaking in the function, NC Acting President Sushil Koirala said the convention will be the symbol of party unity.
The conference will be for lasting peace, institutionalisation of republic and constitution-drafting, Koirala said. "NC will not compromise on democracy," he said, urging the Maoist to implement the agreements signed in the past.
Similarly, NC Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel said the upcoming convention will not only be a colourful event, but will be the gathering of peace, democracy, and unity. By holding district convention recently, NC has showed an example of democratic exercise, he said.
On the occasion, coordinator of convention promotion committee and NC central member Krishna Sitaula informed that promotion for the convention is going on in district level. He expressed hope that the convention will help institutionalise peace, and will be the gathering of unity.
He also urged journalists to help for the promotion, and effective management of the convention.
