Waste collection halted
KATHMANDU, AUG 25 -
Garbage collection in the Kathmandu Valley came to a complete halt on Tuesday after locals living near the Aletar dumping site in Nuwakot district blocked garbage disposal at the dumping site on Monday. According to Rabin Man Shrestha, chief of the Environment Department at the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) office, this situation may last a while as the locals are not being flexible in their demand. The locals have been demanding that 25 among them be employed as drivers and helpers in organisations that dump garbage there. “We have limited number of vehicles and it is impossible to employ all of them as drivers and helpers,” said Shrestha. “The demand being made is not appropriate.”
