Prachanda makes last-ditch effort to secure PM berth
KATHMANDU, AUG 23 - In a last-ditch effort to secure a majority support for his reelection to the post of prime minister, UPCN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ held discussions with Madhes-based party leaders at his residence in Nayabazaar, Kathmandu on Monday morning.
However, the meeting held in the run-up-to the fifth round of elections due for later today ended without making any deal.
Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) Chairman Upendra Yadav and MJF-Loktantrik Chairman Bijaya Gachhadar went to Prachanda’s residence, a source said seeking anonymity.
The parliamentary voting for the prime minister’s post is slated for 3:00 p.m today.
Earlier, the major parties including the four Madhesi parties had reached an agreement to take enough time for forging a national consensus if today’s election failed to pick a new prime minister.
