Govt extends NA officers' term, earmarks 10 m for Pak flood victims
KATHMANDU, AUG 13 - The government meeting on Friday earmarked NRs 10 million for the relief of Pakistani flood victims. The worst flooding in Pakistan in decades has affected at least 14 million people.
A Cabinet meeting held today took the decision to extend the tenure of two major generals, seven brigadier generals and two colonels and to promote two colonels to the post of Brigadier Generals.
The government has decided to extend the term of major general duo Netra B.Thapa and Nepal Bhushan Chand by two years, while the term of seven brigadier generals have been extended by three years. Similarly, the term of two colonels has been extended by two years.
Also today, the Cabinet meeting has decided to cut down the tax on the import of sugar taking into account the arrival of festival season. From now on, the government will levy only one percent of tax on the import of sugar.
Likewise, the government has also directed the concerned ministry to provide relief for the victims of Mid-Tarai region where the people were forced to bear the brunt of lack of production due to a dry monsoon.
Today's Cabinet meeting has endorsed the participation of the delegation in the Nepal-China security talks under the leadership of Home Secretary Govinda Kusum. The meeting has also decided to prepare a directive in order to discourage the tobacco material.
