KATHMANDU, AUG 13 - Visiting Indian diplomat KV Rajan held discussions with deposed King Gyanendra Shah at a function in the Capital on Thursday night.

Rajan held a separate consultation with Shah during a dinner bash organised by former minister Ramesh Nath Pandey, who was appointed as foreign minister during the direct rule of Gyanendra, and his son Nischal Pandey at hotel Annapurna in Kathmandu.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Rakesh Sood was also present at the meeting.

Senior Indian diplomat Rajan had arrived in Kathmandu Wednesday afternoon.

During his stay in Nepal, the Indian diplomat is expected hold discussions with leaders of various political parties.

Rajan’s visit comes on the heels of the visit by former Indian Secretary Shyam Saran who came as special emissary of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Kathmandu last week with a mandate to engage all political parties to forge consensus.

The former envoy to Nepal, Rajan is one of those diplomats considered as an expert of Nepali affairs. History suggests that Rajan has been visiting Kathmandu during the political upheavals in Nepal.

Earlier, he had visited Nepal in the second week of June while the main opposition UCPN (Maoist) had been intensifying their agitation against the government led by Madhav Kumar Nepal.
