Indefinite transportation strike in Mechi zone
MECHI, JUL 31 -
Transportation workers have obstructed transportation in Mechi zone for definite period accusing the administration of not providing compensation to the family of a murdered coworker, on Saturday.
Vehicular movements in the districts of Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar, and Taplejung have come to a grinding halt owing to the protest from today morning leaving the passengers stranded.
The administration had agreed to provide a compensation of Rs. 1 million to the family of taxi driver, Deepak Pandey of Garamuni in Jhapa, after he was murdered at Bhaunne of Morang two years ago.
Similarly, the administration had also agreed to provide a compensation of Rs. 350,000 to the family of driver Sher Bahadur Magar, who was allegedly killed during a marriage ceremony mishap last year.
The workers have resorted to the protest as no compensation has been provided the families yet, they have informed.
Meanwhile, students in Siraha have executed a transportation strike from today morning protesting against the shift made in their exam centers.
The seven students’ unions opted to execute the strike at Thana Chowk after exam centers at the district headquarters were shifted to Golbazar.
