6 Maoists in Matrika fold
DANG, JUL 31 - Six UCPN (Maoist) activists, including Dang district secretariat member, defected to Matrika Yadav-led CPN (Maoist).
Organising a press meet in Ghorahi here on Saturday, district secretariat member Ajad KC, area committee member Devraj Pariyar, Om Bahadur Gharti, Tanka Oli and Prashanta announced their defection. Rolpa district committee member Chintan also joined the Matrika party.
The defectors said "the failure of the party leadership to take action against some Maoist leaders who embezzled the extorted money compelled them to quit the party".
"There is no financial transparency in the party. Some Maoist leaders are carrying out illegal activities for their personal benefits," charged KC. "We had taken up the matter to the party leadership time and again, but to no avail."
KC claimed some Maoist leaders misused some 2,000 hectares of seized land and forest resource. "They are plotting the land captured during insurgency period. They were also behind timber smuggling in Dang."
"Some Maoist leaders recently smuggled more than 10,000 cubic feet timber with the help of forest employees," he claimed.
The Maoist party in Dang, however, said KC was expelled for "working against the party policy".
