'Maoist won't make unnecessary deal for govt formation'

BHAKTAPUR, JUL 30 - UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' remarked on Friday that his party would not make 'unnecessary deal' with any political parties to form a new government.

"We respect the emotions of all communities such as Madhesi, Indigenous, Dalit and Marganilised community," said Dahal after meeting Nepal Workers' and Peasants Party (NWPP) Chairman Narayanman Bijukchhe. "But we won't make any kind of deal to form the government."

Dahal, who is vying for the prime minister's post, went to meet NWPP Chairman in a bid to garner support for the prime ministerial runoff slated for Sunday. Earlier, Maoist Vice chair duo Baburam Bhattarai and Narayankaji Shrestha had gone to Bhaktapur to meet Bijukchhe to persuade support for the first prime ministerial election held on July 21. The NWPP had put forth 21 conditions for support to the prime ministerial candidate.

On July 22, Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Poudel, who has been vying for the prime minister's post, had signed the letter expressing commitment to NWPP's conditions. However, the NWPP stayed neutral in the prime ministerial runoff held on July 23. The NWPP has five lawmakers in the Constituent Assembly.
