Bhattarai harps on consensus govt
KATHMANDU, JUL 29 -
UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai said on Thursday that efforts should be made on forming a national consensus government rather than going for a majority government.
In his meeting with United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) Chief Karin Landgren at his residence in Shantinagar today, Bhattarai said that a consensus government is necessary for concluding the twin task of peace process and statute drafting.
During the meeting, Landgren urged Bhattarai to make efforts for an unity government citing the possibility of a majority government losing its strength and its adverse effect on the peace process, Bhattrai's aide Bishodeep Pandey said.
The duo also discussed army integration process. The UNMIN chief also laid stress on wrapping up the army integration before the mission's term expiry.
Bhattarai, in response, said that the UNMIN should remain until the conclusion of peace process.
