NC holds discussion with UDMF
KATHMANDU, JUL 27 - The Nepali Congress (NC), in its bid to garner support for the prime ministerial election runoff, held discussion with the Unified Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) on Tuesday.
In the meeting held at Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Nepal's Parliamentary Party Office today, the front suggested the NC to seek UML's support saying that the NC's leadership would not be possible without UML support.
Meanwhile, the CPN-UML is firm on its stance to stay neutral in the second election runoff slated for August 2.
Following the UML's decision, the NC has been facing difficulty answering to the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF)'s concept paper.
Earlier, the Madheshi front had demanded a formal commitment to their demands for their support in the upcoming runoff poll.
"Some of the demands in the front's paper are heavy issues and call for more discussion and definition," said NC Spokesperson Arjun Narsing KC adding, "As the UML has not come up with its decision, we have not been able to answer the front's paper."
He said that consensus must be sought with other political parties on the UDMF's proposal.
NC Acting President Sushil Koirala, Parliamentary Party leader and prime ministerial candidate Ram Chandra Poudel, and Spokesperson KC were present from the NC while Madhesi leaders including MJF Chairman Upendra Yadav represented the front.
