KATHMANDU, JUL 26 -

The Nepali Congress (NC) on Monday termed the demands put forth by the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) positive and expressed its willingness to implement it.

A meeting of the NC office bearers and  Central Committee (CC) members held at the residence of party Acting President Sushil Koirala in Maharajgunj today decided to address the demands of the UDMF—alliance of four Madhesi parties—for the new government leadership.

However, the meeting has not made any decision on the points to be implemented first including the 'One Madhes, One Province' demand, NC General Secretary Bimalendra Nidhi said.

Earlier on Sunday, the UDMF had said that it can take the decision on whether or not to support the NC for the formation of new government only after the latter comes up with its formal pledge, in writing, regarding the Madhes issues, statute-drafting, and the peace process.

The meeting has also decided to intensify consultations with other political parties including the fringe parties to garner support for the prime ministerial election to be held on August 2.

On the occasion, the talks team who had held discussions with other political parties briefed the CC members today.

The meeting also concluded that the convention held yesterday was a total success, Nidhi informed.
