Buoyant NEPSE adds 10 points

KATHMANDU, JUL 16 - The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) ended the week on a positive note, rising 10.4 points on Thursday. The benchmark index settled at 477.73 points when the market closed for the day.

A massive upswing in the sub-index of hydropower companies backed by a double-digit rise in the sub-index of the banking sector lifted the NEPSE.

Hydropower companies soared 59.24 points following gains in the share prices of all the four companies on the trading floor. Shares of Chilime Hydropower Company and Butwal Power Company went up by Rs. 100 per share and Rs. 59 per share respectively.

Similarly, the commercial bank sector which witnessed trading of 21 companies climbed 14.47 points. The upsurge in the group’s sub-index was fuelled by a rise in the share prices of 15 companies.  Some of the significant gainers in the group are Standard Chartered, Nabil, Everest Bank preference shares and Kumari Bank adding Rs. 219, Rs. 154, Rs. 40 and Rs. 33 per share respectively.

Insurance companies, hotels and development banks also posted marginal gains of 3.76 points, 0.76 point and 0.13 point respectively. The finance company sub-index wallowed in the negative zone shedding 0.17 point. Out of the 60 companies on the trading floor, Standard Chartered was the highest gainer with a rise of Rs. 219 per share while NIDC Capital Market suffered the most, losing Rs. 30 per share.
