Fringe parties advise Maoists to take govt leadership, claims Dr. Bhattarai
KATHMANDU, JUL 02 -
The UCPN (Maoist) which has laid claim to the leadership of the to-be-formed government held discussion with fringe parties on Friday.
After Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal step down, the main opposition UCPN (Maoist) has intensified consultations with the political parties as part of its bid to form a new government under its leadership.
During the meeting with 11 fringe parties held at Maoist Parliamentary Party Office in Singha Durbar today, the Maoist urged the parties including Madeshi Janadhikar Forum to lend support for its leadership taking into account the issues raised by the party.
According to Maoist Vice Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, the small parties advised the Maoist to lead the new government in its capacity as the largest party in the Constituent Assembly.
Bhattarai added that his party would hold parleys with the parties lending support to the outgoing UML-led coalition government to garner support for the Maoist leadership in the new government.
He asserted that the Maoist should be given the chance to lead the new government. "It would not be logical for the ruling parties (Nepali Congress and CPN-UML) to claim the government leadership as they have failed in their task," said Bhattarai to the reporters.
Nepali Congress and Madesh-based parties have been staking claims for the leadership of the next government.
