Nation gets US health grant
KATHMANDU, JUN 20 - With the aim to improve measurable health outcomes by strengthening health systems and building upon proven results, the United States on Friday decided named eight countries including Nepal that will receive a $63 billion aid programme under the Global Health Initiative (GHI).
Besides Nepal Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Kenya, Malawi, Mali and Rwanda are named for first set of GHI plus.
A joint statement issued on Friday by the Health and Human Services Department and U.S. Agency for International Development said, “These countries will receive additional technical and management resources to quickly implement GHI’s approach, including integrated programmes and investments across the spectrum of infectious diseases, maternal and child health, family planning, and health systems activities.”
GHI includes programmes to address HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, maternal and child health, nutrition, family planning and reproductive health, among others.
