Manisha walks the eight yards
KATHMANDU, JUN 19 - It was 3:10 pm Friday. The cameras rolled, the audience waited with bated breath. The “hero” and the “heroine” were ready to take “engage”. None to yell “action” or “cut”. This wasn’t a scene on the sets of a Bollywood flick. Nepal’s own diva who has made a name in Bollywood was getting engaged to a Nepali businessman. This was reality.
Scion of the Koirala clan, Manisha, clad in a yellow sari with red and black border and a “dubo” garland around her neck, placed the ring on Samrat Dahal’s finger. Cheers and hoorays from the 250-some guests greeted Manisha, noted for her work in films like Bombay, Dil Se and 1942 A Love Story, when the ring exchanging ceremony was over. Manisha’s family members, including her parents Prakash and Sushma, were a busy lot attending to guests. It was a brief affair with just family members, select invitees and some oh-so-special guests from Mumbai, including Manisha’s “hero” from her debut Hindi film “Saudagar,” Vivek Mushran.
The wedding is scheduled for Saturday at Le Meridien Hotel at Gokarna. All rituals will take place as per Hindu tradition. The big reception is Sunday night at Hotel Soaltee where 3,000 guests are invited. Bollywood actors Jackie Shroff and Govinda and director Subash Ghai are expected to attend the ceremony.
Invitees include President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal and former king Gyanendra Shah.
