Everest climber Lakpa Sherpa honoured

KATHMANDU, JUN 16 - Lakpa Sherpa, who ascended the highest peak of the world--Mt. Everest--in May 23, was felicitated on Tuesday amid a function organised by Ideal English Higher Secondary School in its premises.

Sherpa, student of class 11 in Ideal school, expressed his happiness that his dedication and devotion paid him back succeeding him to step in the peak of the Mt. Everest.

"I have always been inspired by my senior brothers to summit the highest peak and prove nothing is impossible if we are committed to do something.” said Lakpa.

Sherpa's four brothers have already stepped in the peak of the world.

Eighteen-year-old Sherpa, who hails from Solukhumbu said, “This honor has greatly encouraged me to perform other deeds and make me more responsible.”

Speaking in the programme, a BBC World Service Trust journalist Narayan Shrestha said, "The most prominent thing in the life is the confident, when the people develop the feeling of the confident, then surely the success is in our hands."
