Got the guts to return jungle, Minister Shrestha challenges Maoists
BHAKTAPUR, MAY 27 -
Minister for General Administration Rabindra Shrestha Thursday challenged the UCPN (Maoist) to muster courage and return to jungle for revolt if they do not want peace.
Speaking at a programme in Bhaktapur today, Shrestha charged the Maoists of planning revolt by placing conditions for the Constituent Assembly (CA)’s term extension. The Maoists have been piling up conditions against the people’s desire, Minister Shrestha said.
“If the Maoists are not ready for peace, they can show guts and power and go to jungle for revolt,” said Shrestha adding, it will be hard for Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to relinquish the glamour and comfort.
If the Maoists are to renounce revolutionary ways, they must be ready to extend the CA’s term for peace, Shrestha said.
He went on to say that the Maoist chairman is not clear on his concept. Shrestha said, “He (Dahal) is my teacher and also a leader but his ideology is often conflicting.” It is unclear whether Dahal is for peace or revolution, he siad.
Minister Shrestha also said that the prime minister and government ministers are ready to step down if the political parties forge consensus.
