KATHMANDU, MAY 27 - Police on Wednesday arrested eight persons related to Unity Life International (ULI) from different places of Kathmandu on charge of involvement in fraud and abetment.
Lalitpur Metropolitan Police Range arrested Ram Dev Yadav, managing director of Madhyamanchal Grameen Bikas Bank from Samakhusi while Sudeep Ghimire, information technology department chief of ULI, and its accountant Bhim Khatri were nabbed from Durbar Marga and Dhapasi respectively.
Earlier, police under the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range arrested five people from Sundhara area of the Capital for their involvement in ULI activities and handed over them to Lalitpur Range on Monday.
Among the arrested from Sundhara include Shova B.C., of Nepalgunj Muncipality-13 in Banke, Hari Bhandari of Appipal -9 in Gorkha, Bina Dahal of Nijgadh-5 in Bara, Rupa Sapkota of Bharatpur-9 in Chitwan and Goma Thapa of Kohalpur-2 in Banke.
“We have taken into custody those arrested by our team and those handed over to us by Kathmandu’s team,” said SP Bikram Singh Thapa of Lalitpur Metropolitan Police Range. Police have also taken approval from the court for a five-day remand to keep the detainees in custody, according to Thapa.
But, ULI’s big fishes including chairman Kashi Ram Gurung and managing director Bishnu Chhetri are still at large. Both Thapa and chief of Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range chief SP Ramesh Kharel said that the main people responsible for fraud will be booked soon.
Meanwhile, Nepal Rastra Bank submitted the documents related to probe to Finance Ministry, Police headquarters and Metropolitan Police Range of both Kathmandu and Lalitpur.
