MAY 23 - The Nepal Taekwondo Association (NTA) has suspended Olympian Deepak Bista from the member of the executive committee of NTA for two months, effective from Saturday, as a punishment for traveling to Singapore as chief-de-mission for Youth Olympics back in March without prior notice to NTA.
NTA had come down heavily on Bista after the latter traveled to Singapore in the capacity of the chief-de-mission of Nepal, the very tournament the NTA had pulled out citing the negligence of the Nepal Olympic Committee, National Sports Council and Ministry for Youth and Sports. The NTA argued that they had missed the deadline of the game’s qualifiers in Mexico due to differences between the three associations.
The NTA took the decision on the basis of the report submitted by investigation committee headed by Ravi Raj Singh on March 23 formed exclusively to know more on the incident.
Based on the finding of the report submitted by the investigation committee, NTA also decided to scrap Bista’s designation as secretary of Taekwondo Players Protection Committee.
