Jail sentence to 16 rhino poachers
NARAYANGADH , MAY 21 -
The Chitwan National Park (CNP) has slapped jail term and fine to 16 rhino poachers, including two who are absconding.
A single bench of CNP officer Narendra Pradhan took the decision on Thursday. Two of the poachers are still at large.
According to the decision, former pilot Ramesh Chandra Pokharel will have to serve 14 years in prison and pay a fine of Rs. 1,00,000.
Convicting Hari Bahadur, Damber Lamsal, Hiralal Lopchan, Sanu Singdan, Bir Bahadur Kumal, Surya Bahadur Kumal, Tashi Gurung, Kalu Gurung and Bhuwan Gurung of killing the endangered animal and selling its horn, the CNP slapped 15 years jail sentence and Rs. 1,00,000 fine.
Likewise, Buddhi Bahadur Kumal, Bhim Narayan Shrestha, Rajesh Ghale and Dinesh Basnet while Din Bahadur BK, Topila Kumal and Safal Lopchan will have to serve
10 years in prison and pay Rs. 50,000 as fine
The CNP, however, has not revealed the punishment to another accused Kaila Lopchan.
