Mafia shot Jamim, says panel
KATHMANDU, MAY 13 -
A committee investigating the murder of media entrepreneur Jamim Shah has stated in its report that he was killed by an Indian criminal gang at the behest of the Indian ‘underworld’.
A source seeking anonymity said, “The reason was not personal enmity, aggressiveness or trade between Shah and the killers.”
The five-member team formed on Feb. 8 and led by former Justice Govinda Prasad Parajuli sent its report on Wednesday.
The report has tried to buttress the motive behind the killing. The report recommended Nepal Police adopt new and scientific methods of investigation and added “foreign maneuvering has increased in Nepal.” It said the police mechanism is outdated. The report said the government should hand over the Department of Immigration to Nepal Police for security reasons.
The probe committee comprises officials of Nepal Police, National Investigation Department, Attorney General’s Office and a security expert.
The 192-page report has covered the overall aspects of the incident.
