Consensus within next two days: Prachanda
KATHMANDU, MAY 12 -
Chairman of the main opposition party UCPN (Maoist) Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' said on Wednesday that an agreement could be struck in the next two days as the parties are close to forging a consensus.
The Maoist chieftain said so during his meeting with Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subash Chandra Nemwang at his residence in Nayabazaar this morning.
During the meeting, Prachanda said his party will not allow the peace process to get aborted and the CA to be dissolved, according to sources.
Also, the former prime minister said the number of Maoist combatants to be integrated into the security bodies has become the Gordian knot.
Likewise, Nemwang said it takes at least 17 days to make amendments in the Interim Constitution so as to extend the CA's tenure that is expiring on May 28. He however, said that the days can be shortened to seven days keeping in view the present political situation and even if that is not possible the amendment could be made on four days provided the political parties forge consensus.
