UML's discipline panel to decide on Bamdev's fate

KATHMANDU, MAY 11 -

The CPN-UML on Tuesday charged the party’s disciplinary panel with the responsibility to initiate against its Vice Chairman Bamdev Gautam for his controversial memorandum. He forged the clarification to the panel today itself.

According to UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel, the Standing Committee meet held today concluded that Gautam's modus operandi to send the memorandum to the party chairman and some of the issues he has raised are harmful to the party.

On May 2, Gautam had sent an email to Jhalanath Khanal, alogn with the names of 59 other leaders as signatories, urging him to seek Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal's resignation.

"The meeting has also directed him (Gautam) to take what he has done seriously," Pokharel said.

According to him, the panel will recommend the disciplinary action against the senior vice chairman to the Central Committe, which will decide his fate.

SC stresses on package deal



Meawhile, the SC meeting held at its headquarters in Balkhu decided to continue inter and intra-party discussions to settle the conflict over leadership of the next national consensus government.

According to Pokharel, the SC concluded that the ongoing political crisis should be defused forging a package deal that includes power-sharing also. He said no party should claim stake for the leadership of new government.

The party has scheduled to hold its Central Committee meeting on May 15 and 16 to come up with its position including regarding the support to the to be formed government.
