Many Maoists return home

KATHMANDU, MAY 10 - The UCPN (Maoist) so far has sent home half of its cadres brought in the Capital for the May 1 demonstration and general strike. 

Following the withdrawal of the nationwide indefinite general strike, Maoist cadres left Kathmandu for their home.

“We returned half of our cadres as per the party’s strategy,” said Narayan Dahal, secretary of Newa State Committee, a Maoist’s ethnic organisation responsible for their management.

Besides facilitating the return, he said, “We are bringing in cadres, who have not participated the protest and strike, from districts”.

Dahal said the cadres were called in for “the decisive movement that will last till May 28”.

The first push was on April 6 and the second on May 1 and the general strike, he said. “We already showed our power that was rehearsal for the revolt,” he said. “Now the third one will before May 28 and will be the decisive one.”

The Maoists is planning to house cadres in the Capital until May 28. “We had informed about it to them,” said Dahal. “We may put them at in party leaders’ houses in Capital too.” Meanwhile, the Maoists have vacated around 100 public places where they camped

for more than six days. “We have shifted the remaining cadres to our shelters after some of them returned home,” said Dahal.

“We had kept our cadres in some school and colleges. Being a responsible party, we vacated all public places,” he said.

According to him, the party has managed 200 shelters. All new and old cadres will be housed there, he said.

Dahal also said they will also soon vacate the party palaces occupied by them.
